The move, which was put in place to further engender peace and smooth running of the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and the 37 newly created Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), comprises of a 12-man Committee, among who are civil servants drawn from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, where the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Lateef Owodeyi would serve as Chairman and Alhaji S.A. Asade as Secretary.

Other members are Messrs A. O Somoye, S.A Adewunmi, T.A Adebayo, O.C Oderinde, M.O Onayemi, O.O Oyefeso, Engr. L.O Yusuf, Engr. O.JAdebajo, Dr. Kam. Olabintan and Mrs. J .O Dada

Inaugurating the Committee in Abeokuta, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa noted that there had been issues between some of the new LCDAs and their parent LGAs, but charged the members to be fair to all and come up with appropriate recommendations for necessary action by government.

“As you may be aware, because most of these LCDAs are totally new, issues which are not unusual arose between some of the parent Local Government Areas and the new ones as regards who takes what on legacy assets of some of the old councils and LCDAs they gave birth to. We thank God it has not degenerated beyond what we can handle’’, he said.

The SSG revealed that the development has necessitated the ‘’proper delineation of the areas of authority and jurisdiction of each Local Council to determine who takes what’’, stating that members of the Committee were expected to submit their report in two weeks.

Responding, Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Lateef Owodeyi thanked the State Government for the confidence reposed in them, promising that the committee would work assiduously to achieve its set goal.
